Alicia Herrero

If you are interested in contemporary Argentinian art, we would also recommend to have a look at the website of Alicia Herrero, a very active visual artist whom we met in her studio in Buenos Aires. Alicia has been showing her works at various national and international events and art spaces, as for example at the "First Bienal del Fin del Mundo" in Ushuaia, Fireland. She is also the initiator of the Laboratory of Investigation into Contemporary Art Practice.

Gustavo Romano at Gallery Ruth Benzacar

This week we finally had the chance to see the great exhibiton "Time Notes. Mercado de futuros." by the Argentinian artist Gustavo Romano at the contemporary art galery Ruth Benzacar. We met Gustavo recently and had the chance to talk to him about his work and about developments in the field of Netart, in which he has his personal focus. The Time Notes exhibition documents with videos and art objects a series of interactive art events held in the streets in various cities of the world. They are all centered around the subject of lost time and the possibility to get lost time refunded by a time office in form of time bills. The people can tell their wishes to the time office and get as many time bills as necessary. Wishes were, for example, five years for learning to play the guitar, 30 minutes daily to organize my time, the 10 years lost waiting for the right woman, or time to finish school, says a boy who had quit school because he has to work for money. Videos and more information can be found here. We are happy that Gustavo will also show his work in Munich this autumn!

Fundación Proa

Last weekend we visited the exhibition space Fundación Proa in the it's-better-not-to-walk-around-there-too-much-as-we-were-told neighborhood La Boca and the exhibition "Art in the auditorium" organized by the Whitechapel Gallery in London. The Proa seems to be one of Buenos Aires' most interesting spaces for cutting-edge contemporary art. In this exhibition it shows a couple of videos (some of them documentary style) from international artists addressing topics like jeans fabrication in Turkey, the destroyed life of a revealed CIA agent, an interview with Noam Chomsky that is presented as monologue episodes addressing interesting global and philosophical issues with the expected provocative tone. The impressive architecture of the PROA building with a roof terrasse overlooking the old harbor added to the thrill and overall value of this trip.
